40 Years post-Revolution by edthomasten 40 Years post-Revolution by edthomasten
A map from a branched TL to the Commonwealth of America, where things have gone rather differently.

It is 1876; in 1774, the Galloway Plan is adopted by the First Continental Congress, and what in our timeline became the USA remains part of the British Empire. But both America, and the Home Islands, begins to seethe with discontent under the rule of the despotic King Augustus, and finally in 1836 revolution breaks out on both sides of the Atlantic.

Three men become the founders of their respective nations; in New England, Henry Clay routs the Royalists and joins up with his Chartist brothers in Britain to form a new Republic based on Religious Liberty and Freedom. Virginian Daniel Webster decides to lead the middle colonies on their own course, free from overseas influence. And in the South, diehard Royalist John Calhoun welcomes the exiled King to Charleston and plots to expand the institution of slavery across the American continent...

Nice play on the Great Triumvirate. If I may suggest, fade down the colours of the flags and they'll look more "on paper". Distort ("displace") everything even with the paper texture, if you want to go for the "it's really on paper!" look.

Very nice. You make fantastic looking maps!

Interesting map, I'm assuming the despotic Augustus is Ernest Augustus, Duke of Cumberland?

This map's awesomeness cannot be restated enough. Next to the Kimbangu one, it's probably my favourite of the lot. One small detail, though - I think you should switch Webster and Clay around. As it is, they've pretty much taken each other's beliefs.

Oh, and I'm currently making a Munroist extension of this, so expect that in the Map Thread shortly.

How is there an independent New Ireland around? And how does it get along with New Ulster?

I believe it may be a case of Irish migrants being kicked out of Columbia and the Kingdom of America, and then heading west (mixing with whoever joined them along the way).

New Ulster is likely just the name of state, maybe named as such because of it's connection to Ulster-Scots migrants or just named randomly/

It goes top to bottom- Blue's the United Republics, which is a sort of Chartist-ish state; Green's the OTL USA equivalent, and Red's where the Crown has fled to, a nasty rump UK with southern slave-owners and Imperial pretensions....

So the Quebec-dominated dominated territory is attached to the government in the United Kingdom, correct ? That explains some things.

The only problem with the Kingdom of America's flag is that it is a union of English, Scottish, and Northern Irish flags, although Northern Ireland doesn't exist yet... and England Scotland and Ireland aren't in America

It's the last remnant of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Taiwan style- hence the flag...

Very nice map, though the history strikes me as a bit implausible, or at least unexplained. That said, I have a tendency to ramble on and on and on about the history behind my maps, so being concise isn't exactly my forté.

The flags could do with some work, too (apart from the one for the Kingdom of America; that one's perfect. ;) ).

why does the Kingdom of America's flag look exactly like the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland's flag?

other then that, interesting :D

While I know this is old, the reason is because it's where the British crown fled. With the new United Republics having their own flag for their lands, the Union Jack was more of a symbol of the monarchy. So when they fled, they kept it.

ya im kinda confused by that myself...but brilliant map..
but another nitpick...why is ireland part of the republics?..wouldnt they have created their own nation or is the united republics more of a alliance of the 3 individual republics?

I would say the United Republics is a confederation/federation or union. more of a united bunch of states for a single cause. kind of how the real life United States opporates.
